Is Breast Lift Surgery Right for Me? By Stuart Baker on March 12, 2013

Springfield Breast Lift CandidatesAs the body ages or as we go through life experiences such as pregnancy and weight loss, it is common to notice physical changes throughout the body. In many cases, these experiences result in lost skin elasticity and loose, possible sagging, skin. One area of the body in particular that is likely to show the effects of these changes is the breasts. Many women notice that their breasts seem to have lost their shape or perkiness following pregnancy or weight loss or simply as a result of aging and genetics. Fortunately, Springfield plastic surgeon Stuart Baker can restore shape and firmness to the breast with breast lift surgery, medically known as a mastopexy procedure.

As with all plastic surgeries, a breast lift may not be for everyone. There are certain qualifications that our Springfield patients must meet to be good breast lift candidates. First, a patient must be aware of the conditions that can be corrected with breast lift surgery. Breast lift surgery can be customized to address any of the following:

  • Breasts that droop down against the body
  • Breasts that have lost firmness
  • Breasts with loose skin
  • Breasts with downward pointing nipples

Patients who are unhappy as a result of any of these conditions are possible candidates for breast lift surgery. However, these patients should also meet the following criteria in order to be the ideal candidate for breast lift surgery.

  • The patient should be at least 18 years of age
  • The patients should be both physically and mentally stable
  • The patient should have a thorough understanding of the procedure and realistic expectations of surgical results
  • The patient should have no immediate plans of becoming pregnant or undergoing extreme weight loss (if so, the results of the breast lift may be compromised and a revision surgery may be necessary)

For those patients who meet these conditions, breast lift surgery can lift the breasts and nipples to a more aesthetically pleasing and youthful position.

Another group of women who may be good candidates for breast lift surgery are those who are unhappy with both the position of the breasts and the size of the breasts. Breast lift surgery alone cannot increase the size of the breasts, but for these patients in Springfield, breast augmentation can be performed along with breast lift surgery to both lift the breasts and restore significantly lost volume. During the breast lift surgery, Dr. Baker can also insert breast implants to fill out the breasts. Together, breast lift surgery and breast augmentation surgery can dramatically improve the size, shape, and overall appearance of the bust line.
