Woman's liposuction

Liposuction

Diet and exercise can help you look and feel healthier, but some people simply can't target certain areas without a plastic surgeon's help. Board-certified plastic surgeon Stuart Baker can perform liposuction to help you achieve your desired contours and feel your best. With locations in Decatur, Monticello, and Champaign, IL, we make world-class plastic surgery more accessible than ever before.

3 Reasons to Schedule a Liposuction Consultation Today

For some, summer in Illinois means swimsuits, pool parties, and barbeques. For those who are self-conscious about their figure and want to hide certain problem areas, summer can cause serious anxiety.

Here are three reasons to schedule a liposuction consultation at The Center for Cosmetic Medicine:

Number 1

Target Your Problem Areas

Before considering plastic surgery, you should always try diet and exercise as a means of losing weight and improving your health. However, with lifestyle changes alone, it can be nearly impossible to target fat tissue in problem areas like your arms, tummy, and thighs. With liposuction, you can choose which areas you'd like to remove unwanted fat from to achieve your desired contours.

Number 2

Work With a Trusted Doctor

Does plastic surgery seem scary to you? With a trusted, board-certified plastic surgeon like Dr. Baker performing your procedure, you can feel confident that your treatment is as safe as possible. Dr. Baker has been practicing since 1980, and he is trained in the latest body contouring techniques. He also works closely with each patient to ensure that their results exceed their expectations.

Number 3

Look and Feel Your Best

Unwanted fat tissue on your arms, abdomen, thighs, hips, buttocks, or back can make you feel self-conscious, especially when you wear swimsuits, tank tops, or shorts. Body contouring can help you get rid of unwanted fat tissue and achieve your desired shape. When you love your body, you'll feel more confident no matter what you wear.

Areas You Can Target With Liposuction

Though there are several obvious areas where you could receive liposuction, some may surprise you. You can receive liposuction on areas all over the body, including:

  • Cheeks
  • Chin and neck
  • Chest
  • Stomach
  • Love handles
  • Hips and back
  • Buttocks
  • Upper arms
  • Thighs
  • Inner knees
  • Calves and ankles

Dr. Baker in Champaign, IL, can also combine liposuction with other plastic surgery treatments in order to completely redefine these areas.

How Many Pounds of Fat Can I Expect to Lose With Liposuction?

Though you can lose up to 10 pounds of fat with liposuction, it isn't considered a weight loss procedure. Instead, it's a way to accentuate your figure. Liposuction can be a great way to finalize the results of a weight loss journey, tone the body following pregnancy, or remove stubborn fat deposits that won't respond to diet and exercise.

What to Expect During Liposuction

When you undergo liposuction with Dr. Baker, your procedure can be performed at The Center for Cosmetic Medicine. In some cases, Dr. Baker will perform liposuction at one of the world-class hospitals in Champaign or Springfield, IL. Liposuction is an outpatient procedure, which means you can have surgery and go home to recover on the same day.

Thirty percent of our plastic surgery patients from Central Illinois receive liposuction, making it a popular procedure.

Planning Treatment

After a thorough discussion about your goals, Dr. Baker will precisely mark the treatment areas.

Administering Anesthesia

We will then administer general anesthesia so that you remain comfortable during surgery. We perform tumescent liposuction, meaning a solution containing a local anesthetic and epinephrine will be injected to make the fat cells easier to remove and give your plastic surgeon better control when contouring the area.

Inserting Cannula

Dr. Baker will create small incisions and insert a thin tube called a cannula to suction out the fat cells. Our plastic surgeon takes great care when choosing a cannula so your procedure is safe and your results are optimal.

Closing Incisions

The cannula will be removed and we will close your incisions. You will then wake up.

Returning Home

After monitoring you for a few hours, we will send you home to begin your recovery. Because you'll go home on the same day of your surgery, you will need someone to drive you.

Recovery and Aftercare

Some bruising, swelling, and discomfort can be expected for the next few weeks, so we recommend taking a few days off of work. Wear a compression garment so your skin can form to your new contours. Your compression garment can be worn for up to six weeks.

We Use Advanced J-Plasma Technology for Even Better Results

Dr. Baker now offers J-Plasma® skin tightening by Renuvion for all his liposuction patients. J-Plasma is an advanced surgical tool that uses helium plasma and RF (radiofrequency) waveform technology to precisely remove tissue and tighten the skin without trauma to the surrounding healthy tissues. The device is used after liposuction to heat and tighten tissue, resulting in smoother skin and overall, better results.

When using J-Plasma technology, our plastic surgeon will begin by creating several tiny incisions along the treatment area. He will then insert the J-Plasma device into these incisions and tighten the skin in the desired areas. Finally, he will close the incisions with dissolvable sutures to ensure minimal to no scarring.

J-Plasma also encourages collagen production, so the skin will continue to tighten and become more refined for weeks after the initial procedure.

Not Ready for Surgery? We Also Offer Injection Lipolysis

Injection lipolysis is a cosmetic procedure that "melts away" stubborn fat deposits and cellulite. The injections are made up of PPC, a natural compound made from soybeans. When injected into fat deposits, PPC triggers a metabolic process that destroys fat cells before the body naturally eliminates them.

Dr. Baker is one of a select number of physicians who have the training and certification to offer injection lipolysis. If you are interested in learning more about this nonsurgical fat loss technique, request a consultation at our offices in Champaign, Decatur, or Monticello, IL, today.

Our Central Illinois patients can benefit from our range of surgical and nonsurgical treatments. No matter your goals, Dr. Baker has a cosmetic solution that can meet your needs and match your budget.

Making Liposuction Affordable

The cost of liposuction depends on how many areas you want to treat, whether the service is combined with other procedures, and other factors. Like most plastic surgery procedures, liposuction is not covered by insurance. If you are concerned about managing your budget, you can divide the cost of your surgery into several monthly payments using CareCredit®.

Which Procedures Can I Combine With My Liposuction?

Though liposuction may be all that you need to contour your body and achieve the look you want, we offer a variety of procedures that can be combined with liposuction to realize your goals:

Tummy Tuck

Following weight loss or pregnancy, liposuction and a tummy tuck can help restore your midsection by removing fat and excess skin. It can also help tighten weak abdominal muscles, creating a toned appearance.
