Research suggests that body language accounts for over half of the emotions and messages we convey, a large portion of which is conveyed through our eyes. When eyes look tired or worn out, they may not accurately reflect how a person feels. By reducing unwanted skin or “bags” around the eyes, an upper or lower eyelid surgery can help maintain a youthful persona.

For patients in and around the Champagne area, we offer the following information on our eyelid surgery procedures.

What Can Eyelid Surgery Solve?

Eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, is the process of removing excess tissue from below or above the eye. As a result, the skin appears smoother and tighter, thus reversing signs of fatigue or aging. This procedure is often an optimal treatment for patients looking to revitalize their appearance without the more invasive methods of a full facelift. The best candidates for upper or lower eyelid surgery are those hoping to correct any of the following cosmetic problems:

Upper vs. Lower Eyelid Surgery

Both upper and lower eyelid surgery target different areas; the deciding factor is merely where you wish to see cosmetic improvement. During recovery, scars from an upper eyelid surgery tend to be less visible due to the natural folds of your eyelids.

If you are considering plastic surgery on your lower and upper eyelids, your doctor may recommend completing both surgeries at once to avoid a second recovery. Double eyelid surgery can also be performed together to create a better-defined upper eyelid crease.

The Procedure

Prior to surgery, a local anesthetic will be administered to limit discomfort during the procedure. Over the next one to three hours, your eyelid(s) will be reshaped and its skin tightened.

The results may be immediately noticeable for some patients, but temporary swelling and bruising around the incision should be expected for days or weeks. Once swelling subsides, you should notice the cosmetic benefits of your renewed look.
