Who is a candidate for liposuction?
The ideal candidates for liposuction are adults who have (1) fat deposits that haven't responded to sincere weight loss and exercise efforts, and (2) enough elasticity in their skin that the skin will readjust itself after a liposuction treatment.
Both women and men can have stubborn areas that do not respond to diet and exercise, including the :
Liposuction is not a substitute for losing weight, or an effective option for treating cellulite. In addition, a person with significant excess or sagging skin and/or muscle may need more than liposuction; an abdominoplasty or "tummy tuck" procedure may be necessary, or may be combined with liposuction for optimal results. Other cosmetic procedures such as breast lift, breast reduction, and breast augmentation can also be combined with liposuction to achieve the desired body contour.

What can I expect during and after liposuction?
Significant advances have been made over the past decade or so in the techniques used for liposuction, offering more precision and better healing. Dr. Baker will explain the various liposuction techniques to you in an initial consultation. Your liposuction can be performed at The Center for Cosmetic Medicine™ as an outpatient procedure, or at one of the Champaign or Springfield, Illinois-area hospitals at which Dr. Baker performs liposuction procedures. General and local anesthesia will be used.
An incision is made in the area to be treated, and a cannula (a thin, hollow tube) is inserted into the incision. Excess pockets of fat cells are vacuumed out. Some side effects are possible, including soreness, temporary bruising, a burning sensation, and numbness. However, these diminish over the next few days or weeks. A firmer, toned contour will often be seen immediately after the liposuction treatment, and it is sure to be noticeable once the treated area has healed.
Injection Lipolysis "melts away" difficult-to-eliminate fat deposits and cellulite. Injections of a natural compound made from soybeans, PPC, are made directly into the fat deposits. The presence of PPC initiates a metabolic process whereby the fat is eliminated from the body by the same route as that used by other fat-loss methods such as dieting and exercise. A common treatment regimen is two to four sessions of injections at intervals of six to eight weeks. Thousands of Injection Lipolysis treatments around the world have produced no serious complications; temporary side effects such as redness, swelling and muscle ache may be experienced.
Dr. Baker is one of a small group of physicians certified in the use of Injection Lipolysis. In your private consultation with Dr. Baker, he will advise you regarding whether Injection Lipolysis, liposuction, or another treatment is most appropriate for you.
